SOME RECENT STUDIES

I often do studies to experiement, stay sharp or for the pure joy of it. Some are more direct, more straight forward as in an alla prima sketch or plein air study, and some are more abstract in their purpose as in a poster study. Some take no longer than 45 minutes. They are complete when the objective is achieved. I'm basically after the LIGHT, but there's a bit more to it than that...

  2. I love these beautiful little paintings. They are charming works of art even though they are called poster studies.

  3. Hi Ryan,

Just stumbled upon your blog through the bacaa website. Great to see what you've been up to and lovely to see all of the work from France. I still remember looking at your drawing of Magda's back at the Couteleaus, it's phenomenal. Really nice to see all the work together. Congrats on the teaching and the current show.

    Hope you're well,
    Tom

  4. These studies show all the elements of excellent painting. The subtle value changes, chroma, warms and cools, and the changes in light as a plane turns, statements of distance versus the plane nearer to the viewer, all are accurate observations by a highly skilled artist. Very beautiful work.
